WHAT IS A ROOT CANAL
Saving Your Tooth, Not Pulling It
A root canal — also called endodontic therapy — treats the inside of a tooth when the pulp (the nerves and soft tissue) has become infected or damaged. By cleaning out the infection and sealing the canal, we relieve the pain and save the tooth from extraction.
At Essential Dentistry, root canals are far more comfortable than their reputation suggests. We numb the area thoroughly, work efficiently, and most patients say the appointment feels similar to having a filling done.

WHEN A ROOT CANAL MAKES SENSE
When the Inside of Your Tooth Needs Care
Persistent tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers, swelling, or a darkened tooth can all signal that the inside of the tooth needs treatment. A quick exam will tell you whether a root canal is the right path — or whether something simpler would do the job.
HOW IT WORKS
From Diagnosis to Final Restoration
1
Diagnosis & Numbing
Dr. Williams reviews the tooth, takes any needed X-rays, and confirms a root canal is the right approach. We then numb the area thoroughly before any work begins.
2
infection removal
The infected pulp inside the tooth is carefully removed. The canal is cleaned, shaped, and disinfected to prevent further problems down the road.
3
Sealing the Canal
The empty canal is filled with a biocompatible material and sealed to keep bacteria out. A temporary filling closes the tooth in the meantime.
4
final restoration
A ceramic crown is typically placed over the treated tooth at a follow-up visit, restoring full strength and protecting it long-term.

IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU
When a Root Canal Is the Right Call
A root canal is typically recommended when the inside of a tooth has become infected or damaged but the root and surrounding bone are still healthy. You may need one if you have:
Severe or lingering tooth pain
Sensitivity to hot or cold that doesn't fade
Swelling or tenderness in the gums near a specific tooth
A tooth that has had root canal treatment
A tooth you want to strengthen and protect long-term
For more cosmetic concerns or severe structural issues, Dr. Williams may suggest veneers, a bridge, or another option instead.
